Olive Oil Museum

In 1784 began the construction of the new building destined for the Casa Tercia, which would replace another one located near the Plaza Mayor. The tercia (third part) consisted of a tax (two ninths of the ecclesiastical tithes) the Church granted to the Crown on an annual basis. The gathering of these taxes, abolished with the confiscation, was paid in species (oil, wine, cereals, etc.), which made necessary the construction of these buildings to serve as large deposits. The Montoro building is one of the few examples of these civilian buildings in the province of Cordoba.

Adapted to be the Olive Oil Museum, it shows through descriptions, utensils and objects related to farming activities the importance the production of olive oil has had for the people of Montoro throughout history. On the upper floor there is a space for the permanent exhibition of oils from all over Spain and other producing countries.
